Objective: To propose that healthcare specialists need to be sensitized and trained in the physical,psychosexual,and cultural aspects and effects of FGM and in the response to the needs of genitally mutilated women since globalization and international migration have brought an increased presence of circumcised women in Europe and developed countries

Findings: The article recommend dermatovenereologists,nurses,and healthcare workers in developed countries should be trained and sensitized on FGM/C,health care works should attempt to discourage women from performing FGM on their daughters. In addition there should be education and prevention campaigns aimed at different target groups: adolescents,refugees,men and women of the communities involved,and healthcare professionals who work with communities with a high FGM risk factor. Education on FGM should be included in the official curricula of midwives,nurses,and medical doctors,and the subject should also be tackled through publications in medical journals
