Shifts in FGMC practice in Sudan_communities’ perspectives and drivers (2019)

Objective: This study therefore sought (across two States od Sudan in a wide range of social groups and across a range of health professionals) toinvestigate on the one hand the drivers of change in the type of FGM/C,on the other hand drivers of medicalization. In addition,it seeks to identify drivers leading to an older age for FGM/C.
Study Population: Families and trained midwives
Findings: Major findings confirmed shifts in the type FGM/C (presumably from infibulation to non-infibulating types) and increasing medicalization in the studied communities. These shifts were reported to be driven by social,professional and religious norms
