RE-CIRCUMCISION: THE HIDDEN EVIL OF FGM IN SUDAN (2002)

Study Population: Sudanese males
Findings: The majority of the men were at the active age of 21-50 years (54% in Al Muhandeseen sample,90% in Al Fitehab). The majority (76%) of the respondents from Al Muhandeseen were highly educated,compared with the majority (72%) of the respondents from Al Fitehab area who had lower levels of education. The majority (98%) in Al Fitehab were of low economic status,that could hardly meet the needs of living expenses. Respondents resident in Al Muhandeseen were of high economic status with high living standards.
With reference to the attitudes towards circumcision,the results show that the majority (58%) of the male respondents in Al Muhandeseen did not support female circumcision,while only a minority (18%) from Al Fitehab did not support it. Regarding re-circumcision,the majority of the male respondents from both areas were aware that re-circumcision is repeating circumcision.
