This study is a Exploratory research regarding All FGM/C with the following characteristics:
Author(s): Abdel-Mageed,Ahmed
FGM/C Type(s): All
Health area of focus: None.
Objective: To test whether FGM/C is practice by TBA,midwives and medical doctors is a habit which is acquired through leaning principles such as “operant conditioning,” which is leaning from the consequences of behaviour
Study Population: Traditional Birth Attendants,Midwives,Healthcare Professionals
Findings: The study concluded the following: 1. There was confusion around the so called “Sunna” type of FGM (clitoridectony) among the TBA and Midwives; 2. It was clear from the description of the process of the so called “Sunna” by the midwives and TBA,that the type they are performing was a more severe one, since by the end of the operation stitching is necessary; 3. Although FGM/C was not part of the curricula of the midwifery school or training programmes of the TBA,still leaning the techniques of the operation is transferred from generation to generation through observing colleagues practicing FGM; 4. Female genital mutilation practice is continued by TBA and midwives through faulty leaning; 5. To decondition the practice we need to establish a therapeutic technique as a group therapy for the main target group (TBA and midwives); 6. The latter should be effected after analyzing the TBA and midwives faulty learning through cognitive learning theories.
