The ‘heat’ goes away: sexual disorders of married women with female genital mutilation/cutting in Kenya (2017)

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the sexual experiences among three categories of married women; the uncut,cut before marriage,and cut after marriage in Mauche Ward,Nakuru County,Kenya.
Study Population: Married Women
Findings: The cut women reported less sexual function than the uncut women. The reported sexual functioning was significantly (p = 0.019) different across the three groups,as determined by ANOVA. After marriage,women with shorter hair (mean = 22.81 ± 4.87) scored substantially lower (p = 0.056) than those with longer hair (mean = 25.35 ± 3.56). However,there was no significant difference compared to the cut before marriage (mean = 23.99 ± 6.63). Lubrication (p = 0.008),orgasm (p = 0.019),and satisfaction (p = 0.042) were substantially different amongst the three groups in terms of sexual functioning dimensions. However,desire,arousal,and pain did not differ significantly.
