FGM is always with us,experiences perceptions and beliefs of women affected by female genital mutilation in London (2009)

Objective: To gain indepth insight from women originally from high prevalence countries and currently living in and around Westminster
Study Population: Ordinary community members (mwn and women)
Findings: What motivated the practice was that it is a long standing tradition that contributes to cultural identity and aim at controlling women sexuality. The participant said that they against the practice because it has harmful health effect and violates human right. The parents are the ones who decide whether a girl should be circumcised. The women also believe that the growing education and awareness have result in growing opposition of the practice.
