“You take the private part of her body,… you are taking a part of her life”: Voices of circumcised African migrant women on female genital circumcision (FGC) in Australia (2018)

Objective: The objective of the study was to describe the experiences of FGC for a small group of African migrant women living in Australia.
Study Population: African migrant women living in Australia
Findings: Forty replies to a self-reported survey and five in-depth interviews indicate that the participating African migrant women are aware of the causes of FGC,are experiencing the harmful effects of FGC,and have a zero tolerance attitude toward the practice. Women who have been circumcised are in the best position to identify their health requirements and lead global efforts to eradicate FGC.
